BIO

For Diana Foster, life is a picture. And she knows, down to her very core, that every picture has a story. So she sees stories everywhere she goes, and takes great pleasure in greeting others (through her art and her sassy self) with snapshots of beauty, and on a really good day, wisdom. She has been expressing herself through art since birth, (you should see her Self-portrait in Diaper!) She has been a teacher and mother for most of her adult life, and she is ridiculously competent—she can cut, double-stick tape, or photograph her way out any problem, and into your heart. Not only is she a published artist, card maker, and photographer, but she has a passion and knack for making everything—every thing—beautiful.

Artist Statement
A belief in capturing everyday life in beautiful and unexpected ways, drives my art. My inspiration comes from being awake enough to recognize a compelling story just waiting to be told. My style is fresh, candid, and full of light. Viewing the world up close through macro photography has become a prominent feature in my work. This intimate point of view dramatizes the fragility of life. Being in the moment allows me to find the visual message in simple, everyday objects and events. My hope is to invite viewers to explore the world around them with fresh perspective.

Diana, the card maker

Here’s the deal: when it comes to making greeting cards, I believe that cards should move beyond the simple, utilitarian job of greeting, and transcend into artful correspondence. We human beings have a long, worldwide tradition of exchanging greeting cards, partly because of our need to connect, and partly because it’s an easy way of letting someone know, quite frankly, that we care. At their best, good cards (whether they are traditional or modern style) comfort, celebrate, give thanks, or simply make someone laugh. In this hectic, high-tech, email-based world, I still value and believe in the simple act of putting pen to paper to celebrate the intensely personal act of artful correspondence.
