BIO
For Diana Foster, life is a picture. And she knows, down to her very core, that every picture has a story. So she sees stories everywhere she goes, and takes great pleasure in greeting others (through her art and her sassy self) with snapshots of beauty, and on a really good day, wisdom. She has been expressing herself through art since birth, (you should see her Self-portrait in Diaper!) She has been a teacher and mother for most of her adult life, and she is ridiculously competent—she can cut, double-stick tape, or photograph her way out any problem, and into your heart. Not only is she a published artist, card maker, and photographer, but she has a passion and knack for making everything—every thing—beautiful.
Artist Statement
A belief in capturing everyday life in beautiful and unexpected ways, drives my art. My inspiration comes from being awake enough to recognize a compelling story just waiting to be told. My style is fresh, candid, and full of light. Viewing the world up close through macro photography has become a prominent feature in my work. This intimate point of view dramatizes the fragility of life. Being in the moment allows me to find the visual message in simple, everyday objects and events. My hope is to invite viewers to explore the world around them with fresh perspective.
Diana, the card maker
Here’s the deal: when it comes to making greeting cards, I believe that cards should move beyond the simple, utilitarian job of greeting, and transcend into artful correspondence. We human beings have a long, worldwide tradition of exchanging greeting cards, partly because of our need to connect, and partly because it’s an easy way of letting someone know, quite frankly, that we care. At their best, good cards (whether they are traditional or modern style) comfort, celebrate, give thanks, or simply make someone laugh. In this hectic, high-tech, email-based world, I still value and believe in the simple act of putting pen to paper to celebrate the intensely personal act of artful correspondence.

My Family Rules, adapted
I love finding inspiration on the internet. There is so much of it, everywhere! So today I thought I would show you one thing I was inspired by recently. I found this awesome canvas that displayed "Family Rules" on this website HERE . . . which then led me to the original post HERE. I decided to give it a try. As I was looking through my paper to find which paper I wanted to use, I found a cute girly stash of Penny Lane from My Minds Eye and decided to do a girl version of the rules list instead. Stuff I would want my daughters to aim for in life. Here is what I came up with:
Be Authentic
Be Patient
Be Confident
Be Creative
Be Prompt
Be Inspired
Be Your Best
Be Supportive
Be Faithful
Be Generous
Be Brave
Be in the Moment
JUST BE YOU
I used a bunch of fun paper that I cut into strips, random ribbon that matched, flowers, an assortment of buttons, and for the lettering I used both an embossing pen and ink pad, embossing powder in 3 different colors for both the stamp and words, and some stickers. I personally like to play with paint so I also painted the edges of the canvas, which you can skip if you don't like that look. Remember, if you want to use embossing powder, you will also need a heating tool. Altogether it was a fun and easy project to do.
This would make a great gift, or just a fun project to do for yourself. Give it a try! When you are finished, put the link to your pictures in the comments section so we can see what you came up with. Have fun!

About Operation Write Home
Operation Write Home is a group of crafters from across America (and beyond!) who make handmade cards for deployed heroes so they can keep in touch with their loved ones at home! We serve all branches of the military in all deployed locations, including those stationed aboard ships.
The project began in 2007 with just a few cards sent by friends on a message board; eventually cardsforheroes.org started, and in September 2009, we became Operation Write Home - to better focus on what we're all about: helping heroes keep in touch with home!
Our crafters range in age, location, and level of skill - but all have a desire to help those who serve us. Cards are made by individuals, groups, schools, scouts, and sent to our volunteer shippers in quantities both small and large! Shipping donations of any size are appreciated - from $1 to any amount - and can be included with card donations to any shipper, or mailed separately, or via Paypal. Thank you for partnering with us!

Have you discovered Picnik yet?
This site is my absolute favorite photo editing site so I thought I would share it with you. Here are a few tidbits I pulled from their Q&A section . . .
What is Picnik?
Picnik is photo editing awesomeness, online, in your browser. It's the easiest way on the Web to fix underexposed photos, remove red-eye, or apply effects to your photos.
What can I do with Picnik?
Pretty much everything! We've got amazing Edit tools that can fix just about anything that could possibly go wrong with a photograph. Lacking photo-editing prowess? A bunch of our editing tools are one-click fixes, including auto- fix, exposure, colors, and red-eye. And the others, like rotate, crop, resize, and sharpening, can be controlled with easy-to-use sliders.
Move over to the Create tab and you'll see our custom-made Effects (most of which have the ability to be painted into just the areas of your image where you want them), an awesome text tool with dozens of fonts, dozens of shapes, including seasonal shapes for holidays and events, and some super customizable frames. Not to mention the touch up tools and new Advanced Editing tools.
This site is FREE for the basic user. You can upgrade (under $25/year) to take advantage of even more features, not to mention you would also have an ad-free experience, which is great!
To learn more, or to check out Picnik, just go here. Have fun!
